This broken protest sign which reads ‘justice = peace’ was held up at a 2020 demonstration protesting the violent death of French black man Adama Traoré, who died in police custody in 2016 when he was apprehended. His death immediately triggered riots throughout France, with new resurgence and resonance after the killing of George Floyd, an African American man, under similar circumstances with similar police force in Minneapolis (USA) in 2020. The Paris protesters clashed with the police, just like four years before. Interior minister Castaner criticised the protests and congratulated the police “for their control and composure.”
