Women’s football is now–finally–a globally recognized sport. But, of course, it is not a new phenomenon. Ever since balls have been around, women have been kicking them. Before the First World War, for instance, there was a well known team in England called ‘Dick, Kerr Ladies F.C.’, that played before an audience of up to 53,000 people, and in 1921 they managed to raise ten million pounds for charity. So women’s football was even pretty big in the early twentieth century. By the 1970s even women in very traditional countries like Bulgaria let nothing keep them from the game. Keep it up, ladies!
