PISSING IN WATER GLASS

BELGIUM EA/BE/0021

Posing like the famous Manneken Pis, yet decidedly more clothed, a green-capped boy chases away wildlife from a local pond. This image was originally created by French artist Jules Georges Redon, though it has seen many iterations since. Supposedly it was used by restaurant owners who wished to encourage alcohol sales by reminding us of something our ancestors in the Middle Ages knew to be true: “Don’t drink the water”. The tried-and-true solution, of course, is to drink alcohol instead.
