POSTAL STAMP OF HITLER DEFACED WITH INK

GERMANY - 1940s EA/DE/0014

The first stamp to show Hitler was issued in April 1940 to commemorate his 51st birthday, it features Hitler and a young girl. Between 1941 and 1945, a total of 21 ‘Hitler Head’ stamps were issued; ranging in value from 1 to 80 pfennigs. These portraits all showed the Fuhrer facing right, or ‘looking forward’ as Goebbels called it. Apparently, Hitler demanded a royalty fee for every stamp sold. Even this stamp, smudged in protest, made the Fuhrer money. Today, most Hitler stamps are only worth a few pennies, though there remain a few rarities.
