A presse papier containing a long-horned wood-boring beetle known as Prionus californicus. The impressive serrated antennae on this particular specimen, tell us that it was a male that found himself encased and preserved as a paperweight. These types of beetles are commonly found on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, often causing entire orchards to be decimated. Thankfully, it is rare to come across them in Europe, but perhaps this trophy held down papers and served as a grim warning to any beetles wishing to try their luck: destruction will not be tolerated.
