Around the age of ten, Hungarian children could move up into the second stage of the communist youth movement, the Little Pioneers. This was the middle stage of the movement following the Little Drummers, which children would join simultaneously with starting school. These groups were designed to indoctrinate the youth to a communist way of life; the book contains the 12 points or laws of pioneering life. These cover points such as being loyal to the homeland, and the Hungarian People’s Republic but also being a loyal friend and kind to the environment.
