WOODWORK TOOLS

THE NETHERLANDS EA/NL/0093

A mitre square and two marking gauges which have seen many years of woodworking use. The mitre square is used to draw out 45° angles for joinery as seen in picture frames. Though it may look like a mallet, a marking gauge consists of a short pin used to adjust or fix the position of the block along the handle. Just above the block, the handle has a sharp pin or penpoint used to draw straight lines along edges of wood. In Dutch, a marking gauge or kruishout, may also refer to a piece of the cross of history’s most famous carpenter, Jesus Christ.
