WORKERS UNION BOOKLET WITH CARTOONS

1950s EA/HU/0045

Accordion booklets are also called ‘leporellos’. The term comes from Leporello, Don Giovanni’s assistant, who used to keep a record of his master’s love achievements on a long, folded piece of paper. This Hungarian leporello holds colour drawings of men playing ping pong and a written text dated to 1950. Very dynamic, the illustrations contrast with the elegant yet stern look of the outer leather jacket. The idea of the achievement record survives even in the context of a workers’ union booklet. History repeats.
